Food Allergies

Food allergy occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks a food protein. Ingestion of the offending food may trigger the sudden release of chemicals, including histamine, resulting in symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Food Allergy Symptoms

The symptoms may be mild or severe. A food allergy can be potentially fatal. Scientists estimate that as many as 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies.

Mild Food Allergy Symptoms:

  • Rashes
  • Hives
  • Itching
  • Swelling

Severe Food Allergy Symptoms:

  • Trouble Breathing
  • Wheezing
  • Loss of Consciousness

If you have had a reaction with symptoms that are listed above, you may have a food allergy.

During your visit with our provider we can talk in depth about your symptoms and what food could have triggered the reaction. By doing a quick and simple test, we can notify you of what your allergy is and can help you adjust your lifestyle and diet.
